Iyabo Ojo Confirms EFCC Invitation Over Spraying of Money at Daughter’s Wedding, Warns Nigerians Against the Act

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has officially confirmed that she was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the spraying of naira and foreign currencies during her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding celebration.

In a detailed Instagram post, the actress explained that she honored the EFCC invitation on May 5, 2025, shortly after returning from the UK. During her visit, she was interrogated about her personal background, career, and company affiliations, and also shown video evidence from the wedding, where guests could be seen spraying money on the couple and dancers.

Iyabo Ojo said she was shocked to learn that spraying any currency—whether naira or foreign—is illegal in Nigeria, not just the abuse or mutilation of the naira as she previously believed. The EFCC clarified that spraying money, especially on people, is a punishable offense under Nigerian law.

Though she was allowed to leave the same day, her lawyer, O.I. Salami, stood in on her behalf in case of further summons. In her statement, she advised Nigerians to avoid spraying any currency at events to stay out of legal trouble, calling for a re-evaluation of the long-standing tradition.

She concluded her message by promoting her movie "Labake Olododo," which is still showing in cinemas across Nigeria, the UK, and will premiere in the USA on May 9.
