Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has cleared the air after being accused of throwing shade at her colleague, Biola Bayo, following Biola’s public announcement about her marriage breakup.
Last week, Biola Bayo revealed that she and her husband had quietly separated since April of the previous year. She explained that they had chosen to co-parent their son in a peaceful and mature way. In her emotional post, Biola expressed regret that the marriage didn’t work, saying she cried herself to sleep almost every night for 14 months despite always making others smile. She apologized to fans and asked for prayers during this difficult time.
Shortly after the announcement, Laide Bakare posted a video of herself twerking with the caption:
“All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to (Everyone's time will come). Good morning, people.”
The timing of her post sparked backlash, with many social media users accusing her of mocking Biola’s heartbreak.
However, Laide has now responded to the criticism, firmly denying any connection between her post and Biola’s situation. In a follow-up message, she explained that she was unaware of the divorce news because she was in the U.S., busy celebrating her daughter’s graduation in California.
She wrote:
“Let us all be guarded, please. It’s still June 5th here in America—California, to be precise. I can never shade my own sister @biolabayo. My prayers are with you. I didn’t get any updates. I was busy with @simlineboss’ graduation. Trolls are evil.”
Laide Bakare also emphasized her love for Biola, calling her a sister and urging online users to stop spreading negativity.
The clarification has stirred mixed reactions online, with some fans accepting her explanation and others remaining skeptical.
