Nigerian Health Worker Jailed in the UK for S3xually Assaulting Vulnerable Patient at York Hospital

A Nigerian healthcare assistant, Adewale Kudabo, aged 47, has been jailed for 12 months by York Crown Court in the United Kingdom for s3xually assaulting a vulnerable female patient under his care at York Hospital.

The Assaults

According to the court, the married father, who had only arrived in the UK nine months earlier, kissed the patient on her lips on two separate occasions — against her will, while she was immobile and in severe pain due to a serious medical condition.

First incident: Kudabo kissed the woman after giving her a bed bath. Despite trying to turn her head away, she couldn’t stop him.

Second incident: A few days later, the victim refused another bath, yet Kudabo bent down and kissed her again as she lay helpless in bed.

The court heard that Kudabo worked as a healthcare assistant at the hospital during the time of the incidents.

Court Proceedings

During questioning by the police, Kudabo claimed he only kissed her on the forehead and that his actions were meant to show "sympathy". However, the judge disagreed, saying he was satisfied that it was a kiss on the lips.

The victim reported the matter to police, and in a powerful victim statement read in court, she shared that she now suffers from anxiety, depression, flashbacks, and a loss of trust in people.

Sentencing

Judge Alex Menary said Kudabo abused the trust placed in him and that the victim was in a state where she depended entirely on others for her care.

He said the seriousness of the offences could only be properly punished by sending Kudabo to jail.

Kudabo was sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which he will serve only six months before being released on licence.

He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

The case has drawn strong attention as a violation of medical ethics and trust, especially given the victim’s condition and the sensitive nature of her care.
