Award-winning Nollywood actress and box office queen, Funke Akindele, has opened up about her personal decision to keep her twins away from public view, especially on social media.
In a recent heartfelt message, the mother of two explained that her choice is rooted in the need to protect her children’s mental health, safety, and privacy, especially given the toxic nature of the entertainment industry and the harsh realities of fame.
“People always ask me why I hide my kids, why I don’t post them online, and why I don’t use my influence to build their social media presence,” she shared.
The actress revealed that she has been a victim of cyberbullying and online harassment in the past, and would never want her children to experience the same emotional harm.
“This showbiz industry is very toxic. If you’re not mentally strong, trolls can drive you into depression. I won’t let my kids become victims of that,” she stated firmly.
Though she admitted that at times she wishes she could completely delete her social media accounts, she acknowledged that her career and earnings are deeply connected to the digital space.
“I have money, and it’s for my children to enjoy life. But for now, I want them to focus on their education and enjoy the fruits of my labour in peace,” she added.
Funke also emphasized that when her children are old enough, they will be free to decide whether they want to live a public life or remain private.
“I’m not against celebrities who share their kids online — that’s their choice. But this is mine,” she concluded.
Her statement has since sparked praise from fans and fellow celebrities, who applauded her for being a protective, intentional, and responsible mother, especially in a digital age where children's privacy is often compromised.
