Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has come under criticism following a trending video where he compared his career timeline to that of legendary actor Pete Edochie.
In the clip, Solade reflected on his early years in the industry, stating that although Pete Edochie is older than him in age, he (Solade) has been in the movie industry longer. He revealed that he began acting at a very young age and represented Nigeria at Festac ’77 when he was just 17 years old. According to him, he has been in the entertainment industry for 48 years and is still going strong.
Solade also credited Ade Ajiboye with producing the first Nigerian home video, taking a swipe at his Yoruba colleagues for focusing more on acting than self-promotion, which he claimed led to misconceptions about the true pioneers of home video in Nigeria.
However, his remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users criticizing him for comparing himself to Pete Edochie and others supporting his claims.

aza_paybillz commented: “Chochocho, nah who we see inside film we know.”
earlquellen said: “The race is not who started, it’s about who made an impact and finished well! Yemi, your choice of words has devalued your message.”
vicsiy_a added: “Don’t compare yourself to Daddy Pete.”
muxpeace countered: “He is stating the fact. He started acting in 1977, while Pete Edochie started acting in 1980.”
Ifeanyi_Eze wrote: “Omo, they left things that matter — Yoruba and seniority.”
The debate has since continued on social media, with many questioning Solade’s approach while others defended his claims about his longstanding career.
