Veteran Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has shared emotional details about why she distanced herself from the movie industry for over a decade, revealing that she blocked all her colleagues in a bid to protect her marriage and avoid divorce.
Speaking during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Opeyemi explained that she met her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu, at the peak of her acting career and made the decision to leave everything behind to build a family life with him in London.
“When his name rose, he came to me. I didn’t know the charm he used. He carried me abroad, and I became a lover girl. That’s how I found myself in London,” she said jokingly.
She confessed that the fear of divorce pushed her to cut ties with everyone in the movie industry, including blocking all her colleagues’ numbers. According to her, she wanted to avoid the common perception that entertainers don’t have stable homes, noting that many outsiders don’t understand what really happens behind closed doors in celebrity marriages.
“I was off the scene for over ten years, and I apologise to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem. Some people believe practitioners don’t have homes, but I didn’t want to be one of those stories. So, I blocked everybody in the industry.”
The actress revealed that after many years of focusing solely on her family, she had a moment of reflection where she asked herself what really went wrong. She then decided it was time to return to her passion — acting.
“When I finally got myself back, I asked, ‘What happened? Who did I offend?’ I knew I had given my all to my family. I have two boys, and they know I love them. I’ve given them every bit of love and sacrifice. Now, it’s time to focus on my career.”
Opeyemi also thanked her fans for their support during her absence and promised to continue sharing her talent and passion now that she’s back in the industry. Her heartfelt revelation has drawn admiration online, with many praising her for her honesty, sacrifice, and resilience.
