“When a marriage fails, no one wins,” actress Motilola says as she addresses women.

Nollywood actress Motilola Adekunle has opened up about her failed marriage and shared a powerful message to women, urging them to rethink how they approach marriage and its challenges.

Speaking during an interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Motilola said that no woman enters a marriage with plans to walk away. She stressed that when a marriage breaks down, there are no winners.

“I don’t understand how people see marriage as a competition,” she said. “It is mostly women who want to make a scene out of everything and always want to be right. But there’s nothing to be right about anymore.”

Motilola reflected on her personal life and career, admitting that she’s a “stubborn goat” who fell in love with acting back in SS2. However, she noted that directing has now made it more difficult for her to enjoy acting fully.

In 2021, Motilola publicly announced her divorce from her air force husband, Mr. Adekunle. She explained that their decision was mutual, peaceful, and without violence. Despite going their separate ways, they remain committed to raising their two children together.

Before confirming the split, rumors had swirled about tensions between Motilola and her mother-in-law, who reportedly felt she was “too expensive” for her son. The actress denied these claims.

Later, controversial reports emerged, alleging that the real reason for the marriage’s collapse was her alleged affair with fellow actor Kunle Afod. According to online blog Gistlover, Kunle’s wife, Desola, discovered the affair and accused Motilola of having a child with Kunle due to their child’s resemblance. The blog claimed that the revelation prompted her husband to walk away from the marriage.

In 2023, Motilola again made headlines after calling out Kunle Afod and his wife, accusing them of sabotaging her career. She said Desola had falsely slandered her online and urged Kunle to stop defaming her, emphasizing that she was no longer interested in any relationship with him.

In a heartfelt post, Motilola expressed gratitude to God for helping her survive the emotional, physical, and spiritual battles she faced due to the controversy. She said her strength comes from God, despite attempts to shake her.

Her story has sparked conversation online, with many praising her for her honesty and courage in addressing difficult topics.
