“I Was Outcasted” – Adunni Ade Opens Up About Sabotage and Politics in Nollywood (Video)

Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has shared shocking details about her difficult journey in the Nigerian film industry, revealing how envy, sabotage, and industry politics have cost her major opportunities, including acting jobs and brand endorsements.

In a recent interview on the talk show With Chude, Adunni recalled returning to Nigeria in 2011 and being warmly welcomed at first. Her early movies went straight to the cinema, marking a promising start. However, she said things quickly changed due to her honest and outspoken personality, which clashed with what she described as the "unwritten rules" of Nollywood.

“I think Nigerians don’t like to be told the truth. They like to be deceived and lied to. They like when people kiss their behinds — and that’s not me,” she stated.

Adunni stressed that her refusal to play politics in the industry and her straightforward values led to being blacklisted and sidelined.

“Yes is yes in my book, and no is no. I wasn’t being nasty. I was just being straightforward,” she added.

She revealed that some of her colleagues—now major names in Nollywood—actively sabotaged her career, lying to producers and removing her name from potential projects.

She also mentioned losing endorsement deals not due to lack of merit, but because decision-makers “didn’t like her” or preferred to give opportunities to people who would offer them a cut.

“Deals have been yanked off my feet because I wasn’t their person. They’d rather give it to someone they’re cool with who can give them a cut,” Adunni said.

Despite these setbacks, Adunni Ade remains determined and continues to be a voice for transparency and integrity in the industry, even if it comes at a personal cost. Her emotional revelation has sparked conversations online, with many fans and industry insiders applauding her courage to speak out.
