“I’m not in a supremacy battle with anybody” – Alaafin of Oyo spills

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has dismissed claims that he is in a supremacy battle with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.

The clarification came through a statement issued by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The controversy began after the Alaafin faulted the Ooni’s decision to confer the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Oduwa on businessman Dotun Sanusi during the launch of an indigenous social media platform, 2geda, held at Ilaji Hotel, Ibadan.

In the statement, the Alaafin emphasized that he is a custodian of Yoruba culture and tradition, always prioritizing the welfare and safety of his people. He stressed that he would never compromise the development and progress of his subjects “for a pot of porridge.”

Durojaiye explained that Oba Owoade governs based on results, highlighting prosperity, security, and the well-being of his people as proof of his popularity.

The statement further noted that the Alaafin does not need to fight for supremacy with any monarch, citing his humility, devotion to tradition, and role as a direct representative of Yoruba deities like Ifa and Sango.
