Nollywood actor and filmmaker Odunlade Adekola has come under fire from fans after he publicly congratulated Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, on his recent promotion.
Earlier this week, the Police Service Commission confirmed that Adejobi had been promoted from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The elevation was reportedly based on his outstanding performance and dedication to policing in Nigeria.
Odunlade took to Instagram to celebrate the officer, writing:
“Congratulations, sir. As the new DSP @adejobimuyiwa, God will bless you more, sir.”
However, his congratulatory message sparked heavy criticism from fans and followers, who accused him of supporting a system associated with injustice and oppression.
A follower, Mr. Gbengene, slammed the actor, referencing Adejobi's alleged role in the detention of activist Omoyele Sowore, saying:
“You failed to speak up for injustice because it favours you. Don’t worry, Nigeria will also happen to you.”
Another user, alexerraranna, wrote:
“If real trouble comes to you, do you think this dumb cop will rescue you?”
Others expressed disappointment in Odunlade for celebrating what they called "illegality" and "oppression."
Despite the backlash, Odunlade has not responded to the criticism, maintaining his congratulatory stance. The controversy highlights growing public frustration with perceived government and police misconduct in Nigeria.
