Saudi Arabia is planning something never seen before — a “Sky Stadium” that will hang 350 meters above the desert inside The Line, a futuristic city being built in Neom. The $1 billion project will be one of 15 stadiums hosting matches for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Construction is set to begin in 2027 and finish by 2032, just before the tournament. The Neom Stadium will seat about 46,000 fans and host games from the group stage to the quarterfinals. After the World Cup, it will continue to serve as a major sports and entertainment hub.
The design is futuristic — with mirrored walls, geometric shapes, and LED lights that reflect the desert landscape. The stadium’s glass-like roof and honeycomb seating are built for great views and sound.
It will be eco-friendly, powered by renewable energy and electric transport, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 for a sustainable future. Nearby, there will be hotels, shops, training centers, and leisure zones for visitors.
This stadium is part of a $20 billion plan to develop football venues in Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and Neom. Other major sites include:
-
King Salman International Stadium (Riyadh): for the opening and final matches.
-
Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium (Qiddiya): built into a cliff with a retractable roof.
-
Aramco Stadium (Al Khobar): with a vortex-inspired design.
Saudi Arabia’s Sky Stadium will become the world’s first vertical stadium, a mix of innovation, luxury, and sustainability, showing the kingdom’s dream to reshape the future of sports and city living.
