While performing, Davido wore a special blazer with portraits of both Ifeanyi and his mother, reaffirming his love for them. In a touching moment, he said:
“I love you, son. Tell my mom, Daddy is a superstar down here.”
Davido’s mother died in 2003 at the age of 40.
Just last month, Davido commissioned a hostel named after his mother in Abia State. He described her as a teacher, giver, and a woman who believed education and compassion could transform lives. The project, he said, was dedicated to her legacy and to young Africans pursuing their dreams.
Speaking to Vogue, Davido also revealed why he wore a cufflink with Ifeanyi’s photo at his white wedding — a way to keep his late son close to his heart on such a significant day.
Davido and Chioma lost their son, Ifeanyi, on October 31, 2022, shortly after his 3rd birthday. The toddler reportedly drowned in the family pool and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Since then, Davido has often spoken publicly about the pain of the loss. In July, he remembered Ifeanyi, calling him a “legend” and praying for him to rest in peace.
In a CNN interview last year, Davido broke down in tears as he spoke about how grief affected his music and personal life, saying he and Chioma “didn’t deserve that kind of pain.” He later dedicated a track on his Timeless album to Ifeanyi and other departed loved ones.
Earlier this year, Davido emotionally stated that he and his wife believe Ifeanyi “came back” through their twin son, noting the striking resemblance. The couple welcomed twins — a boy and a girl — in the same month their son passed, a blessing Davido described as indescribable after such tragedy.
Davido’s tribute at his concert has since drawn massive reactions online, with fans praising his strength, vulnerability, and unwavering love for his late family members.
