The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could be at risk if President Bola Tinubu removes a Northern Muslim from his re-election ticket in 2027.
Musawa made this statement while speaking on a recent episode of Mic On Show with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, amid ongoing speculation that the APC may review the Muslim–Muslim ticket used in the 2023 presidential election.
According to the minister, replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima or choosing a running mate who is not a Northern Muslim could create serious political challenges for the party, especially in key northern states. She said the absence of a Hausa, Fulani, or Kanuri Muslim on the ticket would be a major issue because of how voters in the region think and vote.
Musawa explained that politics in Northern Nigeria is deeply rooted and highly developed. She noted that states such as Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara, and Sokoto take politics seriously, with many people seeing elections as their main way of influencing leadership every four years.
She warned that any political decision taken without a proper understanding of the North could backfire and negatively affect the APC’s chances in future elections.
