Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred fresh reactions on social media after debuting a new look shortly after regaining his freedom from prison.
Hours after his release, the street-hop singer was spotted performing at an event, where he entertained a cheerful crowd with freestyle music. However, what caught the attention of many online users was not just his performance, but his appearance. Portable was seen with a freshly shaved haircut, a sharp change from his usual look.
The video quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from netizens. Some expressed concern, while others reacted with humour. A user, toluwatee, wrote that people were not telling Portable the truth and that he did not look okay. Portable’s appearance comes shortly after his legal troubles. Last week, he was arrested following a dispute involving his actress baby mama, Ashabi. In a video that circulated online at the time, the singer was seen struggling to escape as people restrained him.
He was later arraigned at a High Court in Onipanu and charged with assault, felony causing harm, and resisting arrest. The charges were linked to an alleged attack on Ashabi and the obstruction of a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, during the incident. The court ordered that Portable be remanded in custody, with his bail application scheduled for January 19.
The incident followed a heated argument between Portable and Ashabi on New Year’s Day. Both parties later gave different accounts of what happened. Portable claimed Ashabi came to his house and attacked his family, alleging that his pregnant wife was beaten and that guns were pointed at his children. He also said Ashabi’s mother accused him of using charms on her daughter.
In her own account, Ashabi denied the claims and alleged that Portable assaulted her and her siblings when they visited him to celebrate the New Year. She said he slapped her, attacked her siblings, brought out an axe, seized their phones, and forced her to seek safety in his office.
Despite the controversy, Portable’s recent public appearance and new haircut have once again placed him at the centre of online discussions, with many watching closely to see what his next move will be.
