DSS Arrests Suspected ESN Commander and IPOB Member in Enugu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two suspected members of separatist groups in Enugu State as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.

Security sources said the suspects include Sabastine Odo Odam, believed to be a commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and Ejike Daniel, who is suspected to be a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to reports, the two men were arrested on Friday in different communities within Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. Odam was reportedly apprehended in Eha-Amufu, while Daniel was arrested in Umuhu.

Security officials revealed that the arrests came after several months of intelligence gathering on the suspects and their alleged activities. The operation followed a series of violent attacks on police stations and the killing of security personnel and civilians between 2024 and 2026.

Sources claimed that both suspects have confessed to being involved in multiple attacks on police facilities and the theft of weapons. They were also linked to several killings, including the deaths of 11 labourers in February 2026, two policemen in January 2026, two policemen in December 2025, and another police officer in 2024.

Security officials described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against insecurity in the southeast and across the country.

Following the news of the arrests, many residents of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area expressed relief and happiness. Some community members said they believe the development will help restore peace and improve safety in the affected communities.
