Bandits Abduct Kwara Monarch, Wife, Others in Midnight Attack

Suspected bandits have abducted a traditional ruler, his wife, and another resident during a late-night attack in Kwara State.

The incident occurred in Olayinka community, Agunjin District, within Ifelodun Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly stormed the palace of Oba Salman Aweda around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

According to local sources, the attackers fired gunshots into the air to scare residents before taking the monarch, his wife, and one other person to an unknown location. The monarch is said to be among the recently graded traditional rulers in the state.

Reacting to the incident, Ifelodun Local Government Chairman, Abdulrasheed Yusuf, expressed concern and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims.

He stated that a joint search-and-rescue operation has been launched, involving security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes. The operation is currently focused on surrounding forests and nearby communities to track down the kidnappers.

Yusuf also called on residents to remain calm and support security efforts by providing useful information that could help in the rescue mission.

The attack has raised fresh concerns about security in the area, as authorities continue efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
