“I Wept When I Saw Davido Working With My Son,” Toyin Adewale Opens Up About Mayorkun’s Breakthrough and Relationship With Davido

Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has shared an emotional account of how her son, singer Mayorkun, began his successful music journey with Afrobeats star Davido.


Speaking in an interview with media personality Biola Bayo, the actress recalled the moment Davido first reached out to Mayorkun, a life-changing event that eventually launched his music career.



According to Toyin, she was present when Davido contacted her son and invited him to the studio. She said Mayorkun was extremely excited by the call and could hardly contain himself. The following day, he went to the studio, and that session led to the recording of the hit song “Eleko,” which became his breakthrough track.


The actress revealed that seeing her son work with Davido brought her to tears. She explained that after returning to Nigeria from the United States, where she had spent nine years, she became emotional when she witnessed the progress Mayorkun had made in his career.



Toyin said she quietly stepped aside and cried tears of gratitude, thanking God for making her proud through her son’s success.


She also spoke warmly about her first encounter with Davido and members of his team. According to her, they were welcoming, respectful, and treated her with kindness. She recalled that everyone addressed her as “Mummy,” which made her feel appreciated and comfortable.


The actress noted that Mayorkun had always shown a passion for music from a young age, describing him as someone who loved writing poems and singing long before he became famous.


Expressing gratitude for Davido’s role in her son’s career, Toyin prayed for continued success and prosperity for the singer and his team. She also prayed that they would continue to thrive and remain protected as they pursue their careers.


Her heartfelt comments have once again highlighted the important role Davido played in discovering and helping to launch Mayorkun’s music career, a partnership that produced several successful songs and memorable moments in the Nigerian music industry.
