Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has claimed that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), initially agreed to join the Movement of the People (MOP) but later changed his decision.
Speaking during a recent interview, Seun Kuti recalled that he first met VeryDarkMan during a period when entertainment executive Paulo Okoye allegedly used the police to have the activist arrested.
According to Seun, he and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore supported VeryDarkMan during the incident and stood by him throughout the situation.
Seun said it was during that period in 2023 that he introduced VeryDarkMan to the Movement of the People (MOP). He claimed that the activist initially told him he would join the movement but later informed him that he was no longer interested.
The singer further alleged that despite the change of mind, he never pressured VeryDarkMan to become a member of the movement. He explained that joining MOP was entirely the activist's personal decision and that he respected his choice.
Seun also described VeryDarkMan as "a deceiver" over the incident, insisting that the activist had first agreed to become part of the movement before later withdrawing his interest.
Following Seun Kuti's comments, the interview sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions about the claims.
Some users questioned whose version of events should be believed, while others defended VeryDarkMan and argued that everyone has the right to decide whether or not to join a political movement.
Others simply expressed curiosity and said they would like to hear VeryDarkMan's side of the story before drawing conclusions.
