Man d!es days after being slapped once during argument

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a 38-year-old man reportedly died from a head injury following a confrontation in Makokoba, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

According to reports by The Herald, the incident happened on June 25, 2026, when Mandlenkosi Mlotshwa was drinking with three friends at his home on Third Street in Makokoba. During the gathering, an argument allegedly started after one of the men insulted Mlotshwa.

The man reportedly left the scene but later returned with his 19-year-old son, Sibusiso Banda. Police alleged that Banda confronted Mlotshwa and slapped him once. The force of the slap reportedly caused Mlotshwa to fall backwards, striking his head against a wall.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the incident and said authorities have launched an investigation into the case.

According to Mlotshwa's family, he was found unconscious the following morning. They noticed that he could no longer speak properly or see clearly before rushing him to Mpilo Central Hospital. Doctors reportedly discovered a blood clot in his head, but despite receiving medical treatment, he died three days later on June 28, 2026.

His sister, Sithulisiwe Mlotshwa, described the family's shock over how quickly his condition worsened.

"It all happened so fast. Before we knew it, things had escalated," she said, explaining that the family immediately took him to the hospital after noticing the serious changes in his health.

Family members described Mlotshwa as their breadwinner. He is survived by two school-going children, whose future has now been affected by the tragic loss.

Police have since arrested Sibusiso Banda in connection with the incident. His mother, Rosemary Banda, said both families had been neighbours for many years and expressed her family's willingness to assist Mlotshwa's family with funeral arrangements.

Inspector Msebele also urged members of the public to settle disagreements peacefully, warning that arguments that appear minor can quickly turn into fatal incidents.

Police confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mlotshwa's death are still ongoing.
