Team Nigeria's men's 4x100m relay team has been stripped of its silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Canada successfully appealed its earlier disqualification, leaving the Nigerian quartet to settle for bronze.
The Nigerian team, made up of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede, and Udodi Onwuzurike, originally crossed the finish line in third place but was promoted to silver after Canada, which finished second with a time of 38.11 seconds, was disqualified over an alleged lane infringement.
Following the initial ruling, Canada lodged an appeal, delaying the medal presentation. After reviewing the incident, officials upheld the Canadian team's appeal, overturning the disqualification and restoring their silver medal finish.
As a result, Nigeria was officially downgraded from silver to bronze, while Australia retained the gold medal.
The updated results have since been reflected on the official Commonwealth Games website.
Despite the setback, Team Nigeria continues to enjoy an impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a total haul of 23 medals—comprising 10 gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals.
