A video from the burial ceremony of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has surfaced online, capturing an emotional revelation from his younger sister about the painful series of losses their family has experienced over the years.
Ogogo reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. His death sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues, friends, fans, and other well-wishers mourning the loss of the veteran actor and paying tribute to his contributions to Nollywood.
The late actor was laid to rest the following day, Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State. Several prominent figures in the Yoruba movie industry were present to pay their final respects, including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo, Kazeem Adeoti, Dele Odule, Mr Latin, Ireti Osayemi, Fathia Balogun, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Toyosi Adesanya, and Saje Tiologa, among others.
However, one of the most emotional moments from the burial ceremony came when Ogogo’s younger sister spoke about the tragic history of losses within their family.
Speaking in Yoruba, she recounted how the family had suffered the deaths of several relatives over the years. She described the situation as “Ogun Idile,” which she associated with a longstanding generational battle affecting members of their father’s family in Ilaro.
She, however, made it clear that she was not accusing witches or wizards of being responsible for her brother’s death. Instead, she explained that she was speaking about the painful pattern of tragedies and losses the family had experienced for many years.
The grieving sister also recalled the devastating losses suffered by their mother, revealing that although she gave birth to several children after marrying into Ogogo’s father’s family, only a few of them survived.
Sharing her own painful experience, she revealed that she also lost her first child after giving birth while living in their father’s home in Ilaro, further highlighting the deep history of grief and tragedy within the family.
Her emotional revelation has also brought renewed attention to comments Ogogo himself made years earlier about his family’s heartbreaking history.
In a 2020 interview to mark his 60th birthday, the late actor revealed that his mother had given birth to 13 children, but only three were still alive at the time. He also disclosed that his mother had given birth to four sets of twins and that he was the only surviving twin after the death of his twin brother, Kehinde.
Reflecting on his life at the time, Ogogo expressed gratitude to God for allowing him to reach the age of 60, describing the milestone as a significant achievement considering the painful losses his family had endured.
“I just want to thank God for bringing me into this world. Being 60 is a thing of joy for me. For example, my Kehinde, my twin, is no more. My mother had four sets of twins. I’m the last set of twins and the only surviving one,” he had said.
The revelations from Ogogo’s younger sister have added another emotional dimension to the mourning surrounding the veteran actor’s death. As family members, colleagues, and fans continue to pay tribute, the resurfacing of the family’s painful history has further highlighted the personal struggles and losses that shaped the life of the respected Nollywood star.
Despite the tragedy surrounding his passing, Taiwo Hassan Ogogo’s legacy in the Nigerian film industry continues to be celebrated, with many remembering him not only for his remarkable talent and decades-long career but also for the impact he made on colleagues and fans throughout his lifetime.
