Nollywood actress Jaiyeola Kuti has paid tribute to late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, recalling the significant support he gave her during his lifetime.
In an emotional post, Kuti revealed that Ogogo once encouraged her to consider travelling to Canada after they met at a movie location. According to her, actors Yinka Quadri and Ogogo were discussing a trip to Canada when the late actor asked why she was not interested in visiting the country.
Kuti said she initially showed little interest and told him she had no plans to travel. However, Ogogo reportedly persuaded her to reconsider and went a step further by contacting someone in Canada to help her obtain an invitation letter.
According to the actress, the entire process happened quickly. She revealed that she submitted her visa application within 10 days, and it was approved, with a 10-year visa subsequently stamped in her passport.
Looking back, Kuti admitted that she did not fully appreciate Ogogo’s gesture at the time. She explained that she only realised the significance of his assistance after she began taking her movies to Canada and making money from her work there.
She wrote:
“I never appreciated it then not until I started taking my movies to Canada and making money. I am planning going next week again. Thank God I listened to Ogogo the other day.”
Kuti also spoke fondly about Ogogo’s personality, describing him as a pleasant soul who was always willing to support people around him.
She said that since his death, she has repeatedly seen images of the late actor smiling, which she interpreted as a sign that he is in a peaceful place.
According to her, Ogogo was someone who genuinely wanted those around him to succeed and was always ready to extend a helping hand.
The actress concluded her tribute by praying for the repose of his soul and using his memory to encourage people to be kind and supportive of one another.
Her account highlights another side of Taiwo Hassan’s legacy, showing how his impact extended beyond his work in Nollywood to the personal lives and careers of colleagues he supported during his lifetime.
