All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has acknowledged that the party had hoped for a different result but said he respects the position of the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Oyebamiji made the remarks in a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, following the outcome of the governorship election. While expressing disappointment that the result did not go in the APC’s favour, he maintained that the party would respect the electoral process as it reviews the outcome.
The APC candidate also declared his full support for the party’s decision to review the election results, signalling that the party would continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the election before deciding on its next steps.
Despite the setback, Oyebamiji used the statement to appreciate the people who supported his campaign and vision. He thanked voters who trusted his candidacy, as well as APC leaders, members, volunteers and other supporters who contributed to the campaign.
He particularly expressed gratitude to voters who believed in the alternative vision presented by his campaign, acknowledging their confidence and support throughout the electoral process.
His comments come amid the APC’s ongoing assessment of the Osun governorship election, with the party expected to determine its position after reviewing the results and the conduct of the poll.
Oyebamiji’s statement therefore reflects a combination of acceptance of INEC’s position, appreciation for his supporters and continued support for the APC’s review of the election outcome.
