The burial ceremony of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan is currently underway in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, following his death on Sunday after battling stage-four cancer.
His remains arrived in Ilaro late on Sunday, prompting family members, friends, colleagues and other mourners to gather in large numbers to pay their final respects and console his loved ones.
Ahead of his final interment, a special prayer session was held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion in Ilaro, where his children, close associates and prominent figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry came together to honour the late actor.
Among those present were veteran actors Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Toyosi Adesanya, Ireti Osayemi, Sunny Alli and Muyideen “Lala” Oladapo, alongside several other colleagues and well-wishers.
Ogogo was remembered as one of the respected figures in the Yoruba film industry, having built a career that spanned several decades. He reportedly began acting in 1981 while working as a mechanic before eventually leaving his job at the water corporation in 1994 to pursue acting as a full-time profession.
His passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across the entertainment industry, with colleagues, fans and admirers mourning the loss of a veteran whose contributions helped shape Yoruba cinema.
The ongoing burial ceremony in Ilaro is providing an opportunity for loved ones and members of the entertainment community to celebrate his life, legacy and decades-long contribution to Nollywood.
