President Tinubu Presides Over First FEC Meeting Since June 29

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House in Abuja, marking his first council meeting since June 29, 2026.

The President arrived at the Council Chamber at about 2:30 p.m. to chair the session, which commenced with the rendition of the national anthem.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Ministers, presidential aides and heads of government agencies were also present.

FEC Honours Late Former Ministers

During the meeting, the council observed a minute’s silence in honour of two former members of the Federal Government who recently passed away.

The first was Abubakar Alhaji, who served as Minister of Finance during the administration of former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida. He died on July 30, 2026.

The council also honoured Professor Turner Isoun, who served as Minister of Science and Technology under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Isoun died on July 15, 2026.

Previous FEC Meeting

Tinubu’s last FEC meeting was held on June 29, 2026, after the council had been on a break lasting more than two months.

At that meeting, the President swore in two new Federal Commissioners representing Bauchi and Kaduna states on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) before the council proceeded with its deliberations.

The latest meeting brings ministers and senior government officials together again to consider matters concerning the administration and the country, following the extended gap between FEC sessions.
