Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Dissolves Boards, Terminates Political Appointments Ahead of Second Term

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state, while also terminating the appointments of political appointees.

The decision, announced in a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, affects Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants.

According to the statement, the move is part of preparations for the transition from Oyebanji’s first term to his second term, following his re-election in the June 20, 2026, Ekiti governorship election. He is scheduled to be inaugurated for another term on October 16, 2026.

However, the dissolution does not affect several statutory bodies. The State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission will remain in place.

The governing councils of Ekiti State-owned tertiary institutions will also remain intact, in accordance with the governor’s earlier directive.

In addition, the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will remain in office, even though their respective boards have been dissolved.

The Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.

Oyebanji reportedly expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to the state, while wishing them success in their future endeavours.
