Veteran Nollywood actor Peter Fatomilola has spoken about the death of late Yoruba actor Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan, describing him as his “child in the industry” and a very good man.
In an interview with African A-List, Fatomilola expressed sadness that he was unaware of Taiwo Hassan’s health condition until shortly before his death, when the actor’s daughter reportedly came out to seek assistance.
According to him, knowing about Ogogo’s illness earlier could have given him an opportunity to either assist personally or seek help from people who were in a better position to provide the necessary support.
Fatomilola said the situation was particularly painful because many people may be willing to help when they are made aware of a colleague’s difficulties, but they cannot do so when such challenges are kept private.
He therefore used the opportunity to appeal to his fellow actors and other members of the entertainment industry to speak up whenever they are battling serious health challenges.
The veteran actor urged his colleagues not to wait until an illness becomes severe before seeking assistance, stressing that they may never know who is capable of helping them.
He said:
“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo was my child in the industry, a very good man. It’s a pity I didn’t hear anything about his health until his daughter came out to ask for help. If I had known, and couldn’t even help, I would have sought help from people wiser than me for him.”
Fatomilola further encouraged people in the industry to seek assistance early, noting that speaking out about an illness could potentially connect them with someone who can provide the needed support.
“People need to come out early before sickness gets worse cos you’ll never know who can help,” he added.
