20 NYSC Corps Members Abducted in Imo Regain Freedom

Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in Imo State have regained their freedom following a coordinated security operation.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Ibadan to their NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when they were kidnapped last Thursday.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦50 million for each victim. The demand was later reduced to ₦5 million per person.

Security agencies, including the Nigerian military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force and other security personnel, were involved in efforts to secure their release.

The operation eventually led to the safe recovery of all 20 prospective corps members, alongside another hostage who was also rescued.

Following their release, the victims were taken to the DSS Hospital in Owerri, where they are reportedly receiving medical attention and undergoing necessary medical checks.

The development brings relief to the families and loved ones of the prospective corps members, who had been concerned about their safety since the abduction.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the incident and efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the kidnapping.
