Actress Yetunde Barnabas Vows to Take Action Against Trolls Over Criticism of Her Movie

Nollywood actress and producer Yetunde Barnabas has reacted strongly to criticism surrounding her filmmaking efforts, warning social media trolls against making hurtful comments or attempting to rubbish the hard work she puts into her projects.

The actress shared a behind-the-scenes video from the production of her recent movie, Ojise (Prophet), while explaining the inspiration and challenges behind the project.

Barnabas said she has always tried to make movies that are different and unique, adding that promoting Ìṣẹ̀ṣe, Yoruba culture, traditions and spirituality has been an important part of her work as a filmmaker.

According to the actress, she once listened to C&S songs and experienced a feeling she described as a different kind of presence and inspiration. She said the experience later became meaningful to her and influenced her understanding of the purpose behind the project.

She explained that from the beginning of filming Ojise, members of the production team felt that the movie was different from their usual projects. Barnabas said she was aware that the production could come with challenges but remained determined to complete the project.

The actress revealed that the movie was inspired by the life and story of Moses Orimolade, and that her intention was to tell the story in her own style while preaching the gospel, inspiring viewers, celebrating faith and entertaining audiences.

Barnabas, however, acknowledged that criticism is part of filmmaking. She said constructive criticism is welcome because filmmakers are constantly learning and improving their craft.

She expressed concern about critics who, in her view, go beyond reviewing a movie and resort to curses, hatred and wishing harm on the filmmakers behind the project.

It was in this context that the actress issued a stern warning to those she believes are deliberately trying to undermine her work. Addressing one of the individuals involved, she declared that they would not get away with their actions.

Her comments generated reactions online, with several of her colleagues showing support for her and praising the effort she has put into her filmmaking career.

Among those who reacted were Temidayo Enitan, Mustapha Sholagbade, Jamiu Afeez, Regina Chukwu and Seyi Edun, alongside other industry colleagues.

Barnabas later reinforced her position in the comment section, making it clear that she was prepared to confront people who attempt to discredit or destroy the hard work invested in her movies.

Her outburst has since sparked conversations among fans and followers about the difference between constructive criticism and personal attacks against filmmakers and other public figures.
