“I Was Fed Up” – Olamide Reveals Why He Dropped Out of School to Pursue Music in Lagos

Nigerian rapper Olamide has opened up about the decision that changed the direction of his life and music career, recalling how he dropped out of school and moved to Lagos to focus fully on music.

The rapper revealed that he was already in his 200/300 level when he became increasingly frustrated with his studies. According to him, he realised he could not give his education the attention it required while simultaneously pursuing his growing passion for music.

Olamide also recalled that hearing Wande Coal’s “Bumper 2 Bumper” for the first time further influenced his decision. The song reportedly made him realise that he needed to dedicate himself completely to music if he wanted to make progress in the industry.

Speaking about the period, Olamide said he eventually contacted renowned music producer ID Cabasa before packing his bags and relocating to Lagos.

“I dropped out of school in 200-300 level. I was fed up. Also, I heard Wande Coal’s ‘Bumper 2 Bumper’ for the first time. I knew I wouldn’t be able to fully concentrate while still in school. Called Cabasa, & packed my bags for Lagos.”

Olamide’s decision to leave school and pursue music full-time ultimately marked a major turning point in his career. His move to Lagos allowed him to focus on developing his craft and building a career that would later establish him as one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous rappers.
