Super Eagles Drop Four Places to 30th in Latest FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

The Nigerian national team, which was previously ranked 26th in the world, is now in 30th position following a mixed run of results in their recent international matches.

The decline has also affected Nigeria’s position on the African continent. The Super Eagles have fallen from fourth to sixth place in Africa, with Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire now ranked ahead of them.

Nigeria played three international matches during the latest period, recording one victory, one defeat and one draw.

The Super Eagles began the run with a 2–1 victory over Madagascar on home soil. However, they were subsequently handed a heavy 3–0 defeat by Guinea-Bissau.

They then returned to action on Tuesday night in an international friendly against Russia, where both teams played out an entertaining 3–3 draw.

The combination of these results has contributed to Nigeria’s latest drop in the FIFA rankings as the team continues its efforts to improve its position ahead of upcoming international competitions.

Meanwhile, Spain retained the number-one position in the latest global ranking. The reigning world champions remain ahead of Argentina, France, England and Portugal.

Brazil, Morocco, the Netherlands, Belgium and Mexico complete the top 10 teams in the world.

The next FIFA men’s world ranking is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
