Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen made an impressive return from injury as Galatasaray secured a 3-1 victory over Kasımpaşa in their Turkish Süper Lig encounter on Friday night.
The Nigerian international, who had spent several weeks on the sidelines with a groin injury, came on as a substitute at RAMS Park and made an immediate impact by providing an assist for Mario Lemina’s stoppage-time goal.
Galatasaray opened the scoring in the 45th minute through defender Abdülkerim Bardakcı, who headed home to give the hosts a 1-0 lead before the break.
However, the match took a different turn in the 65th minute when Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira received a straight red card, leaving the home side with 10 men.
Kasımpaşa capitalised on their numerical advantage three minutes later, with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi finding the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.
Despite being a man down, Galatasaray continued to push for a winner and regained the lead in the 90th minute through Barış Alper Yılmaz, whose goal put the hosts ahead 2-1.
Osimhen then played a crucial role in sealing the victory, setting up Lemina for a stoppage-time goal that extended Galatasaray’s advantage to 3-1 and secured all three points.
The victory lifted Galatasaray to 16 points and back to the top of the Turkish Süper Lig table. Meanwhile, Kasımpaşa suffered their first defeat of the campaign and remained on 10 points.
Osimhen’s return is a welcome development for Galatasaray as the Turkish champions prepare for their upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against Barcelona. His assist in the victory provides an encouraging sign following his spell out with injury.
The striker’s performance will also be encouraging for Nigerian football fans, who will be hoping he can maintain his fitness and continue contributing to both club and country.
