ELECTIONS 2023: FUNKE AKINDELE AND HER PDP CAMPAIGN TEAM BEING ATTACKED BY SOME THUGS (DETAILS)

Thugs allegedly chased out Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele from the Ikosi Fruit Market in Lagos.

The actress-turned-politician is running as Abdul-Azeez Adediran's deputy in the 2023 Lagos governorship election.

According to NAN, suspected thugs attacked Akindele and her campaign team on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates' team was also attacked in Lagos' Kosofe district.

Adediran said the attacks would not prevent them from "rescuing" the state from the ruling party while speaking to the council of chief imams at Ketu Central Mosque in Kosofe LGA.

On Wednesday, Adediran and Akindele's team was also attacked on Oworo Road in the Oworosonki area.

The suspects threw stones, bottles, and other objects at the campaign train.

They obstructed Oworo Road, insisting that the campaign team not be allowed to use it.

After about 45 minutes, security personnel was able to chase the attackers away.

Similar attacks have also been reported in Badagry, Agege, and Ikorodu since Adediran and Akindele began their tour of 245 wards last October, injuring supporters and journalists.

The attacks, according to Hakeem Amode, the Lagos PDP's publicity secretary, are not good for democracy.

He also added that:

"It is unbelievable at this stage, that these are happening in a state that prides itself as the centre of excellency. It's unfortunate that we can't campaign openly,"

"Electoral Law allows us to campaign anywhere in Lagos State but it is unfortunate that political thugs could attempt to stop us.

"On Tuesday, we were attacked in several wards in Kosofe and we were even prevented from entering markets.

"We are more disturbed to hear that some of our loyalists were prevented from entering the markets to continue their businesses. This is most likely the fourth or fifth local government."

Ambode urged the police and other security agencies to keep campaigners' lives and property safe.

"I am taking this opportunity to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to take into account the process leading up to the election in Lagos state," he said.

"I am also calling on the IGP, the commissioner of police in the state and all area commanders of police, and the Director of the DSS in Lagos State should be aware of this. We can no longer live in fear.
