False marriage fraud: EFCC arrests man for scamming American wife of $200,000

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended one Chidozie Kingsley Nwachi, also known as Dozie, for allegedly defrauding his American wife, Nicole Kierulff Sayers, of $200,000. According to a statement from the EFCC, Nwachi was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, based on Sayers' complaint that he had deceived her into a fraudulent marriage and swindled her out of her life savings. The suspect is currently in custody as the EFCC continues its investigation into the case.



EFCC reveals how man allegedly defrauded American wife of $200,000 using fake contract offer from Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja. According to the EFCC, Chidozie Kingsley Nwachi convinced his wife to finance the phony contract execution until she discovered the contract papers were fraudulent. Sayers reportedly experienced suicidal thoughts after realizing she had been defrauded and was facing bankruptcy. The EFCC seized Nwachi's possessions, including two cars, expensive wristwatches, iPhones, laptops, an international passport, ATM cards, and $2,204 in cash. The investigation is ongoing.
