"I Will Never Refer To Tinubu As My President" Pastor Bakare Declares

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, made a statement asserting that he would never refer to President-elect Bola Tinubu as his president. He expressed this view during a webinar titled "Building the New Nigeria: The Role of the Diaspora" on May 27. Bakare had earlier criticized the 2023 elections, considering them below acceptable standards.

When asked if he would be willing to serve the new government as a "Minister of Diaspora Engagements," Pastor Bakare chuckled and discussed how he addresses President Buhari. He revealed that he sometimes calls Buhari the President of Nigeria or "My President." However, he explicitly stated that he would never use the same term for Tinubu.

During the webinar, Bakare recounted a recent conversation with President Buhari, where he expressed his concerns. He mentioned that he referred to Buhari as the President of Nigeria but clarified that he would never call Tinubu his president due to his perceived lack of integrity and incorruptibility.

The cleric emphasized that he did not participate in the elections, thereby avoiding any potential claims of loss. Bakare recalled his involvement in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election on June 14, 2022, where he received no votes. Despite this outcome, he asserted that there was no shame in his decision and that he, along with others, spoke truth to power within a brief timeframe.

By sharing his experience, Pastor Tunde Bakare aimed to express his stance and maintain his integrity in addressing political figures.
