Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu breaks her silence in response to heavy tribal criticisms she received for using a Yoruba name in a TikTok video. The actress, who attended Funke Akindele’s movie premiere, faced backlash from some Igbo fans after captioning the video with 'Arike Ni Mi.'


In her Instagram post, Regina addresses the issue with a message emphasizing the importance of love and acceptance. She explains that she has loved ones who are Yorubas, and they have embraced her wholeheartedly, leading her to adopt a Yoruba name.


Regina shares personal anecdotes to illustrate her connection to Yoruba names. She recalls being called 'Abosede' by an elderly landlord in her childhood neighborhood, who named her on her naming ceremony because she was born on a Sunday.


Regarding the name 'Arike,' Regina discloses that her partner gave her the name, and she holds it dear. She writes, "So ARIKE NI MI, gbogbo eni to ba ri mi ko ma kemi," expressing her positive outlook on encountering everyone she meets.
