A significant mass wedding took place at the Gwandu Emirate Palace in Birnin Kebbi, where more than 300 widows, divorcees, and indigents found love and companionship. The event, organized by the Kebbi state government and spearheaded by Hajia Nafisa Nasir Idris, the wife of the Kebbi governor, was executed through the NANAS foundation, her pet project.
Hajia Nasir Idris expressed that the mass wedding aimed to address the challenges faced by divorces, widows, and the economically disadvantaged who struggle with marriage expenses. The initiative offered practical assistance by providing essential household items such as beds, chairs, and kitchen utensils to help them establish new homes.
Emphasizing the government's commitment to the welfare of its citizens, Hajia Nasir Idris highlighted that the mass weddings were part of the efforts to return governance to the people. The brides' parents were presented with a total dowry of 21 million naira, with each bride receiving seventy thousand naira, along with a set of chairs, beds, kitchen utensils, and food items. The occasion not only symbolized the union of couples but also reflected the government's dedication to supporting its citizens in various aspects of life.
