US-based artists, Esquare Hits Back: Says Portable Stole from Them, Shows Proof Amid Assault Controversy

American-based artistes, Esquare, have addressed the allegations of assaulting Nigerian singer Portable in response to a viral video depicting the incident. Portable had previously claimed on Instagram that he was attacked by a group of men after failing to perform at a paid event, resulting in severe injuries, including a broken leg.

Portable explained that he had initially been booked for an event in December by two black Americans, but they demanded a refund after expressing dissatisfaction with his performance. He later revealed being assaulted by about 40 people.

Esquare, in their response, denied assaulting Portable in his house and clarified that the incident occurred at a paid location. They disclosed that they paid Portable N2.5 million for a collaborative song and music video, with a scheduled shoot in Nigeria after multiple postponements.

According to Esquare, Portable failed to show up on the agreed date, citing distance as the reason. When they reached him, he demanded an additional N1 million, which they paid, and tensions escalated when they later requested a refund of the extra payment. Esquare's side of the story suggests contractual disagreements and alleged erratic behavior from Portable during the collaboration.

The dispute appears to revolve around the terms of the collaboration, with Esquare emphasizing their efforts to fulfill the agreement and Portable claiming dissatisfaction and demanding additional payment. The situation escalated, leading to the unfortunate incident captured in the viral video. The conflicting narratives highlight the complexities and challenges often faced in the entertainment industry.
