Following the swift passage of the Minimum Wage Bill by the National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu is expected to sign the bill into law next week.
The Punch reports that the bill was finalized on Wednesday and sent to the President on Thursday. This rapid progress followed its quick approval by both the Senate and the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s plenary sessions.
Senator Abdullahi Gumel, Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, confirmed the bill’s transmission on Thursday.
The President is anticipated to promptly sign the bill into law. Both legislative chambers passed the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 (Amendment Bill) swiftly. The bill, which underwent its second and third readings in both the Senate and the House of Representatives shortly after being sent by the President, received unanimous approval.
The Senate passed the bill after a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of the Whole. The House of Representatives immediately followed suit, approving the bill in a similar manner.
President Tinubu had initially sent the executive bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly for their consideration and passage.
