Police fires teargas at protesters at federal secretariat in Abuja

Abuja, August 1, 2024 – Police used teargas on protesters near the federal secretariat today during a nationwide hunger protest. Named "10 days of rage," the demonstrations focus on economic hardship, high inflation, and other issues.

Despite a court order restricting protests to MKO Abiola stadium, some demonstrators gathered near the federal secretariat. The court order was obtained by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to limit the protests.

The #EndBadGovernance protests demand government action on economic issues, inflation, and police brutality. There is a significant police presence nationwide as the protest gains momentum. The demonstrations are planned to continue from August 1 to 10, but today's events might affect their future.
