Policemen are being deployed across Nigeria as organizers of the October 1 Fearless protest remain firm in their plans to move forward, despite calls for calm from the Federal Government and other stakeholders.
Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer representing the detained protesters from the August 1 demonstrations, stated that the new protest is a result of the government's failure to address the demands made earlier. Speaking to Vanguard, Adeyanju claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s promise to engage with the protesters has yet to be fulfilled, leading to renewed unrest.
In preparation for the protests, the Jigawa State Police command has deployed its officers, while in Lagos, the police command met with protest organizers, assuring them of security during the event. The Lagos State government, however, reiterated that the protests must be confined to two designated venues and warned against extending the demonstrations to other areas to prevent chaos.
