Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has expressed her heartbreak over the arrest and remand of Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, following a tragic incident during a charity event.
Earlier this week, reports revealed that Naomi, in collaboration with Oriyomi Hazmat, the owner of Agidigbo 88.7 FM in Ibadan, organized an event to feed the less privileged. Unfortunately, the event took a devastating turn when a stampede claimed the lives of over 32 children.
Both Naomi and Hazmat were arrested and arraigned on a four-count charge, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities. On Tuesday, a Chief Magistrate ordered their remand at the Agodi Correctional Facility.
Taking to Instagram, Biola Bayo reflected on the incident, using Naomi’s case as a prayer point. She prayed that her own good intentions would never lead to trouble and lamented how a noble act of kindness resulted in tragedy.
Biola wrote:
“Oluwa jo, ma je kin shi’ore se o.
May my good heart never put me in trouble in Jesus’ name?
The same people who were hailing ‘Hosanna! Hosanna!’ were the ones shouting ‘keel him, keel him.’”
The actress shared her sorrow, stating that the news weighed heavily on her mind and heart:
“I feel so sad seeing the news about Queen Naomi and Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat. All she wanted to do was put a smile on people’s faces, and now regret. This can happen to any kind of person, trust me.”
Biola concluded her post with a note of encouragement, expressing hope that Naomi’s ordeal would pass. She also extended a Christmas greeting to her followers, despite the somber tone of her message.
The incident continues to spark widespread discussion, with many sympathizing with Naomi while others call for accountability for the loss of innocent lives.
