Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court has set Tuesday, January 13, 2025, to deliver a ruling on the bail application for Olori Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi. The trio is accused of organizing a children’s funfair in Ibadan on December 20, 2024, which tragically resulted in a stampede that claimed the lives of 35 children.
The suspects were arrested and remanded in December 2024, with the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Agodi currently holding them in custody. Their legal representatives—Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN) for Olori Naomi, Waheed Olajide for Fasasi, and Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN) for Hamzat—filed separate bail applications during a marathon court session lasting over five hours.
The defense lawyers argued that there was insufficient evidence to justify the continued detention of their clients. Meanwhile, the state prosecution team, led by Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Mr. Abiodun Aikomo, opposed the bail applications, filing a counter-motion to keep the accused in custody.
Justice Olawoyin, after hearing submissions from both sides, reserved his decision until the scheduled date. The ruling is anticipated to set the tone for the next phase of this high-profile case, which has drawn significant public attention.
