Renowned Yoruba actor Olu Olowogemo, popularly known as Mr. Portable, has opened up about his reasons for stepping away from acting and the financial hurdles associated with filmmaking. In an interview on Oyinmomo TV's official YouTube channel, Mr. Portable cited financial struggles as the main factor behind his hiatus.
He explained that producing quality movies requires significant investment, something he and his colleague, Segun Ogungbe, struggled to afford. "There was a time when Segun and I couldn’t raise ₦300,000 to produce our movies, so we had to stop. I stopped acting because I’m broke and can’t afford the high costs of movie production anymore. I value quality, which is why my movie soundtracks are always top-notch," he said.
Mr. Portable also delved into societal issues, highlighting how many men approach women with ulterior motives. He remarked that 95% of men often act kind and attentive to gain something, usually physical intimacy, but may neglect the same effort with their wives.
Additionally, he touched on the struggles faced by actors in sustaining relationships. He noted that marriages between actors and actresses frequently fail due to the relentless pursuit of fame, particularly among women, and the challenges of maintaining stardom.
The veteran actor's candid revelations shed light on the challenges of the entertainment industry and personal dynamics within it. Fans have since expressed empathy and hope for his return to the big screen.
