19-Year-Old Girl Arrested for Setting Boyfriend’s Family Home on Fire in Gambia

A 19-year-old girl, Ramatoulie Baldeh, has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to her boyfriend’s family home in Kerr Sering, Gambia. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, following a dispute between the couple.


According to reports from Gambian media, Ramatoulie ignited a plastic bag and threw it onto the bed before opening a gas cylinder. The fire quickly spread, consuming the entire house and destroying all belongings.


Although no injuries were reported, the damage was extensive. At the time of the incident, ten tenants were living in the compound. The fire spread to their apartments, leaving them homeless.


One of the affected tenants spoke to journalists, saying, “We are now homeless, with all our belongings destroyed. We urgently need help.”


Ramatoulie Baldeh is currently in custody at the Senegambia Police Station, while CID officers continue their investigation.
