The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular TikTok influencer Murja Ibrahim Kunya in Kano over allegations of abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.
A source within the anti-graft agency confirmed Kunya’s arrest to Kano-based Freedom Radio over the weekend. According to the source, investigations are ongoing, and once completed, she will be charged in court for prosecution.
Murja Kunya, who initially started creating content on TikTok as a hobby, has now made it a full-time career. Her TikTok account, Yagayagamen, has gained massive attention, often sparking controversies. Her content has also led to multiple convictions in Kano State.
Kunya’s arrest aligns with the EFCC’s recent crackdown on social media influencers. Other TikTok personalities, including Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris, have also been arrested on similar charges.
