Residents of Ori-Ohin community in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area in Ondo State, were thrown into panic after lightning reportedly struck and killed eight cows during a heavy downpour on Sunday evening, April 6, 2025.
The incident, which many described as shocking and unusual, occurred amidst a fierce thunderstorm that swept through the area.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, told Channels Television on Monday that the police were aware of the situation. He explained that it was a natural occurrence and urged residents to remain calm.
According to Ayanlade, the police have already contacted the local community leaders to ensure that the situation does not lead to unnecessary tension or conflict among the people.
The tragic loss has stirred concern among locals, especially cattle owners, who fear a possible repeat of such an incident in the future.
