A Nigerian man, Meshach Owunebe Oko, popularly known as Uncle Wowo, has reminisced about his unconventional wedding day, where he and his wife used loaves of bread as their wedding cake.
Marking their first wedding anniversary on Wednesday, April 3, Oko took to Facebook to recall how some people mocked them for their decision. He also revealed that his wife’s makeup artist disappointed her, making the situation even more challenging.
"Many did not believe we actually used bread as cake on our wedding day. To make matters worse, my wife's makeup artist disappointed her," he wrote.
Oko further explained that some of their friends shared their wedding photos online in an attempt to ridicule them, but the unexpected happened—major Nigerian blogs picked up their story, giving them massive publicity.
"Some of our friends hurriedly posted our pictures online in a bid to mock us, but to God be the glory, almost all the blogs in Nigeria took our story and gave us free publicity," he added.
Despite the criticisms and challenges, Oko joyfully celebrated their first year of marriage, emphasizing that love and commitment matter more than extravagant wedding ceremonies.
"One year later, and we're still bouncing and waxing in great love. So here's to one year of unstoppable bread in our home," he wrote.
He concluded his message with an important life lesson for couples preparing for marriage:
"Moral lesson: After wedding, marriage dey. Reason am well before you impress anybody for one day."
His inspiring story has resonated with many on social media, sparking discussions on the importance of prioritizing marriage over fleeting wedding trends. Congratulations to the couple on their anniversary! 🎉❤️
