Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actress Bimbo Akinsanya has opened up about her short-lived marriage, shedding light on the emotional struggles that led to her becoming a single mother.
In a recent interview with Kunle Afod on his YouTube channel, the actress, known for her powerful roles in Yoruba films, revealed that her marriage lasted only a year and four months. She made the difficult decision to walk away when her baby was just three months old.
Despite pressure from society and the emotional pain of the situation, Akinsanya said she prioritized her peace and her child’s future. She addressed critics who blame women for walking out of marriages, saying many don’t understand the inner strength it takes to raise a child alone.
“It’s not easy to take a three-month-old child and leave your marriage,” she said. “I breastfed my baby for over a year, and I’ve faced many challenges on my own. People assume women who leave are promiscuous, but they should check their conscience.”
Akinsanya also explained why she stepped back from Nollywood. Balancing motherhood with the demanding schedule of acting became overwhelming, so she shifted her focus to business. This allowed her to be more present in her child’s life while still supporting herself.
Her story has drawn admiration from many fans, who praised her courage and honesty in speaking out about her journey.
