Nigerian lady seeks help to find her mother, banished 20 years ago over a false ₦5,000 theft accusation by her aunt.

A Nigerian woman, Princess Nkem Azodo, has taken to social media to begin a public search for her long-lost mother, Obioma Maria Ezike Azodo, who was reportedly banished from their hometown in Anambra State about 20 years ago.

In a heartfelt Facebook post shared on April 30, 2025, Nkem explained that her mother was wrongly accused of stealing ₦5,000 by her own aunt in 2005. Following the accusation, villagers from Nawgwu in Dunukofia Local Government Area banished her without allowing her a chance to defend herself.

“My mother was falsely accused of stealing ₦5,000. No one believed she was innocent. She was banished from our village—her own home,” Nkem wrote.

She recalled that on the day of the incident, her mother had just returned from selling firewood at the local market. Then suddenly, their aunt arrived at their home with a vigilante group, and everything changed. From that moment, her mother was forced out of the village and into silence.

Despite the banishment, Nkem shared that her mother made efforts to secretly visit and check on her children from time to time. Nkem left the village in 2008, but her mother continued to visit her younger siblings until around 2011. Since then, there has been no trace of her.

“There was no phone, no way to connect. I couldn’t talk to her. As I grew up, I searched, but I still haven’t found her,” Nkem explained with pain.

She expressed concern that even her mother's family does not know where she is or if she is still alive. Now, in desperation, Nkem is asking the public for help.

She included her mother’s full name and details:

Name: Obioma Maria Ezike Azodo

Hometown: Nawgwu, Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State

Missing Since: Around 2011, last seen visiting her children secretly.

Nkem is pleading with anyone who has seen her mother or has any useful information to come forward. She also urged the public to help by sharing her message.

“The pain of not knowing never goes away. Please help us find my mother.”
